DON’T PANIC, IT’S... ORGANIC?

Hopefully by now you know that chemicals in beauty products are a bad thing for your skin.

With the plethora of organic skin care products flooding the market these days, you might be wondering "what's the difference between all of the products?"

For starters, anyone can say their product is natural or organic if they have at least one natural substance in the list of ingredients. If you really want to revitalize your skin, the products you’re using should be handmade, using fresh ingredients in small batches. The oils used should be cold pressed. Cold pressed oils and fresh ingredients insure the product is alive and active: think omega fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamins. Similar to a raw foodist philosophy, you want your skin care to be in as natural a state as possible in order for your skin to reap the most benefits.

Like fresh food, the best products should also have a shelf life. Remember, if they’re really “au natural” they won’t be able to sit on your shelf forever! READ THE LABEL. Ingredients should use the whole herb or plant, not just the extract. Note: you should be able to understand every ingredient on the label without having to go to your computer to Google it. Finally, the ingredient list shouldn’t be a mile long. Less is more!

One of our favorite lines is Liliflora Skin Care, handmade in Colorado. We can’t live without their papaya face mask - it’s a miracle in a jar. Just be sure to store it in the refrigerator! Beware: if papaya isn’t in season, she won’t be making the mask, but I promise you she’ll have something equally as good.
